It's a Jungle in Here

"It's a jungle in here" won an Award of Distinction at Prix Art Electronica 2012.

It's a jungle in here is a work by Isobel Knowles & Van Sowerwine, where two people are inserted into an animation, taking the roles of victim and attacker. Each person has an exclusive interaction method (sound vs. physical force).

I worked with Mathew Gingold to create custom software to process two video streams, extract faces from those streams and composite them both into the animation video. Additional hardware processing includes sound detection for one player and phsyical force motion from the other (Arduino based).

As described by the artists;

It's a jungle in here is an interactive installation that explores the boundaries between what's ok and what's not in everyday encounters. Two participants become performers in a drama in which they have little control.
